I spent years thinking New York, a loft on the Lower East Side.
Alone, powerful, confident. Sharp and wanted. A pair of black pumps and no strings attached.
The other night I saw another option that I had never in my life considered.
A home, maybe. A family.
Not neccesarily a house. That might be nice later. But a home.
With Dali's "Gala Contemplating the Mediterranean" hanging up somewhere.
Big windows to let the light in.
Hardwood floors.
High ceilings.
A big kitchen, with an island...and ceramic tile floors.
A back deck.
A fireplace.
White towels.
White wicker porch furniture.
Yellow walls. Houseplants, lots of them. White trim.
Black and white photographs on the walls.
More houseplants.
Not venetian blinds.
Rolling Jamaican shades.
A loft, somewhere.

I never wanted a home because you need a family for that.
I never thought I would find someone that I would want to come home to.
This year is already full of surprises.

fucking byam.
I love my friends.
40 people in my tiny house
bursting at the seams
with christmas cheer.

who remembers what I told them about that dream I had...the christmas party in the second cup on spring garden road where everyone I ever knew were talking and getting along and drinking hot chocolate as snow fell outside.
I did it.
you're damn right I did it.

in a car spinning at the edge of the world when the snow falls fast an hard on your windshield like you're going lightspeed in the millenium falcon.
in a bed spinning at the edge of the world when the snow falls outside, filling up your footprints that lead down that gravel road, no light in the sky but the flakes falling down.
in a car spinning at the edge of the world when the snow falls too hard to see, we're almost in a ditch as the tires scrape ice over asphalt.
in a bed spinning at the edge of the world, I'll promise myself that my shirt is the last thing I'll lose this year.

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your LJ along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they’re listening to.

Oh Jane, yours are so sentimental.
1) Hardwire - Metric
2) Beautiful things can come from the dark - Azure Ray
3) Marching Bands of Manhattan - Death Cab for Cutie
4) Kissing You (Instrumental) - Baz Lurhman's Romeo and Juliet
5) The Killing Moon - Echo and the Bunnymen
6) Caravan - Duke Ellington
7) Watermark - The Weakerthans

you're it.

For 45 minutes on Dec. 6, 1989 an enraged gunman roamed the corridors of Montreal's École Polytechnique and killed 14 women. Marc Lepine, 25, separated the men from the women and before opening fire on the classroom of female engineering students he screamed, "I hate feminists." Almost immediately, the Montreal Massacre became a galvanizing moment in which mourning turned into outrage about all violence against women.
